history

The first documentary mention was made in 1392 as Ranow , the name comes from the Sorbian word rowna and means something like “flat, flat”. Other forms of the name were Rone , Ronaw (1432), Rauna (1524), Rona (1555) and Rohne (1791).

Rohna was in the far north-west of the Upper Lusatia, part of the Kingdom of Bohemia, on the border with the Mark Meissen marked by the course of the Pulsnitz . The village had been subject to the royal rule of Königsbrück since 1562 . Rohna was parish in Ponickau in Saxony. As a result of the Peace of Prague , Rohna was ceded to the Electorate of Saxony in 1635, together with all other places in the two Lusatia . In administrative terms, Rohna belonged to the Bautzen district from 1777 and to the Bautzen district court from 1843. Until the end of the 18th century, the local development was exclusively on the terrace between the Pulsnitz and the Otterbach; In the 19th century, the town was expanded by adding another row of houses to the right of the Otterbach.

The Complete State, Post and Newspaper Lexicon of Saxony wrote in 1826: A village in the Kingdom of Saxony, in the Bautzen district of Upper Lusatia, in the state rule of Königsbrück , 1½ hours. northeast of Ponikau, 1½h. north of Krakow , on the Pulsnitz. The place is parish to Ponikau in Meißnischen , has a child teacher, a community sheep farm apartment , an inn, 32 houses, 176 inhabitants of which 14 are Huefner , 3 half Huefner and 6 are gardeners .

With the reorganization of the Saxon administrative structures, Rohna was assigned to the Königsbrück court office in 1856 and to the Kamenz district administration in 1875 . At the southeast end of the village, on the edge of the brook meadows, there was a mill on the Otterbach; a brick factory was operated in the heather east of the village. In 1907 the Königsbrück military training area was laid out east of the village in the Dürren Heide and Otterschützer Heide . Because of the planned expansion of the military training area, the communal land was bought by the Wehrmacht in 1937, and the 302 residents at that time had to leave their property by April 1, 1938.

In 1992 the last Soviet troops withdrew, the area became a nature reserve Königsbrücker Heide , but is only accessible to a very limited extent due to the high load of ammunition. From the village of Rohna there are still numerous remains of the wall and some fruit trees.

Of the 302 inhabitants in 1925, 301 were of the Protestant faith.
