Roland Grüner (born January 11, 1963 in Bayreuth ) is a former German soccer goalkeeper .

Player career

In his youth, Grüner played at ASV Laineck and 1. FC Bayreuth . From 1980 he was then the "number 1" in the first team in the Landesliga Bayern Nord. In 1982 the second division team SpVgg Fürth signed the young goalkeeper. He made his professional debut in the 2nd Bundesliga on November 14, 1982 against SG Union Solingen and pushed Roland Kastner into the second line during the season . The season ended with the descent of Fürth and Grüner left the club after just one season. During this time he was twice in the goal of the U-21 national team .

There was a change to the Bundesliga club 1. FC Kaiserslautern . At FCK he represented the regular goalkeepers, the injured Ronnie Hellström and Armin Reichel , in the first eight games of the season and on matchday 10 , but could not prevail against them in the long term. In the following season Hellström left the club and Gerry Ehrmann was signed. Green, on the other hand, was still a substitute goalkeeper and was loaned to 1. FC Nürnberg in October 1984 , who competed in the second division. Here he was supposed to replace the suspended Rudi Kargus . The "club", which had previously been relegated from the Bundesliga, managed to get promoted again. But Grüner could not get past Herbert Heider , so that his share in the rise was a single use in the 1984/85 season . In the following season in the first division he was at least 15 times in the first half of the season between the posts. Nürnberg achieved relegation, but Grüner went to SpVgg Bayreuth in the Bayernliga .

There he finally had a regular place that he shouldn't give up in his entire time with the Upper Franconians. In his first season he was promoted to the 2nd Bundesliga with the club. There you could just save yourself from relegation for two years and then went back to the league after the third season. But even there, Grüner was mostly in a relegation battle with his club. In October 1991 he left Bayreuth. His successor in the gate was the young Michael Hofmann . From 1992 until the fall of 1995 he was goalkeeper, with the exception of a country's league season 1993/94, also in the Bavarian League antretenden VfL Frohnlach .

Coaching career

Initially, Green was the trainer of the SSV Kirchenpingarten. From January 2005 to August 2012 he was a coach at FSV Bayreuth. In addition, he was meanwhile goalkeeping coach at SpVgg Bayreuth . In the 2012/13 season he was goalkeeping coach for regional league team SpVgg Bayern Hof . Since the 2013/14 season he has been a coach at his home club, the Bavarian regional division ASV Laineck.
