career

St. Pauli, 1945 to 1950

Born in Saxony from Riesaer SV to Hamburg after the Second World War , he belonged, like Hans Appel , Tute Lehmann, Willy Thiele, Heinrich Schaffer , Heinz Köpping, Heinz Hempel , Walter Dzur , Fritz Machate and "Jupp" Famula to the so-called "Wunderelf" of FC St. Pauli in the post-war years. The contacts of the 12-time national player from 1941 and 1942, Karl Miller Junior, as well as the catering in the legendary "sausage kitchen" in the Karl Miller Senior slaughterhouse in Wexstrasse 39, had brought the players from Berlin, Saxony and Silesia to Hamburg . In addition, the two Hamburgers Harald Stender and Hermann Michael and St. Pauli had a top team that could not only stand up to Hamburger SV. In the 1946/47 season St. Pauli won the championship in the Hamburg league by three points ahead of HSV. In the first half of the season the away game was won 3-2 goals, in the second half of the season they parted on March 30, 1947 in front of 28,000 spectators with a 2-2 draw. The first two rounds in the football Oberliga Nord, 1947/48 and 1948/49, the Millerntor team achieved a tie with the Rothenbaum-Elf. In the two playoffs for the championship, however, Hamburger SV prevailed. On May 22nd, 1949 in front of 42,000 spectators, St. Pauli competed in the 3: 5 defeat in the attack with Börner, Alfred Boller , Machate, Schaffer and Michael. In his last year at St. Pauli, 1949/50, the technically skilled winger with good flanking skills completed 24 league games and scored six goals. St. Pauli again reached the runner-up in the Oberliga Nord. From 1947 to 1950 the man from Riesa had played 65 league games for St. Pauli and scored 23 goals. In the finals for the German championship, he made eight appearances. In 1948 he was eliminated with his teammates against the eventual German champions 1. FC Nürnberg after a 2-3 loss after extra time. In 1949, 1. FC Kaiserslautern and Fritz Walter prevailed against the North Vice-Chancellor in a replay. In 1950/51 he moved from Millerntor to Rothenbaum together with Karl-Heinz Liese .

Hamburger SV, 1950 to 1958

The HSV coach Georg Knöpfle was able to welcome two more newcomers, Fritz Laband and Reinhold Ertel, and after winning the championship again in 1951, he returned to the final round of the German championship. In the league games, Börner only made nine appearances; in the finals he was Laband's partner in all six group matches against Prussia Münster, 1. FC Nuremberg and Tennis Borussia Berlin as a defender. In the first league round of the two great talents Uwe Seeler and Klaus Stürmer , 1954/55 , Börner completed all 30 league games under coach Martin Wilke . In front of goalkeeper Horst Schnoor , Börner, Franz Klepacz , Jochen Meinke , Jupp Posipal and Liese were mostly the defenders. The outstanding attack in the Northern League was achieved by Walter Schemel (30-12), striker (23-18), Seeler (26-28), Günter Schlegel (29-29) and Herbert Wojtkowiak (30-4) to win the title 108 Gates. In the final round , Börner and colleagues failed to make it into the final , one point behind 1. FC Kaiserslautern. When his career was already coming to an end, in 1956/57, he had made another five appearances in the major league and scored two goals. On June 23, 1957, he was with HSV in Hanover against defending champions Borussia Dortmund in the final for the German Championship. Together with Jupp Posipal, he formed the defensive pair in front of goalkeeper Schnoor. With two goals each from Alfred Kelbassa and Alfred Niepieklo , the Westphalia defended the championship title. With the two missions on December 8 and 15, 1957 against Neumünster and Concordia Hamburg, Rolf Börner ended his league career in the 1957/58 season after a total of 196 league appearances with 38 goals.

He ended his career together with Posipal and Schemel in the summer of 1958. The commercial employee died of a heart attack in June 1973.
