Rolf Dubs

Rolf Dubs (born February 2, 1935 in Winterthur ) is a Swiss business educator . He was rector of the University of St. Gallen , a brigadier in the Swiss Army and was responsible in the private sector through numerous board memberships.

Rolf Dubs is a citizen of Affoltern am Albis , married and has 3 children.

education

After attending school in Affoltern am Albis, his training led to the St. Gallen Traffic School and the St. Gallen Cantonal School . Further milestones in his training were the Matura at the Cantonal School of St. Gallen (commercial maturity) (1954), the study at the University of St. Gallen for Economics and Social Sciences (today University of St. Gallen ) (1954-1960), his degree as Graduated commercial teacher (mag. Oec.) (1960), a four-month scholarship at the Università per Stranieri di Perugia (Italy) (1962), a doctorate in economics (Dr. oec.) At the University of St. Gallen for economics and Social sciences with the dissertation: The social credit business of the Swiss cantonal banks (1965), the habilitation at the University of St. Gallen for economics and social sciences for the subject of business education . Habilitation thesis: Das Wirtschaftsgymnasium (1967).

Professional career.

During his studies, Rolf Dubs worked as an assistant teacher for business subjects at the Institute on the Rosenberg , at the Dr. Pfister Oberägeri, worked at the vocational school for sales and at the commercial school of the KV St. Gallen and the traffic school St. Gallen (1954–1961). From 1962 to 1972 he worked as a main teacher for business subjects at the Cantonal School of St. Gallen . Thereupon he was associate professor for business education at the University of St. Gallen from 1969 to 1971, from 1971 to 2000 full professor for business education, from 1972 to 2000 director of the institute for business education, from 1980 to 1982 head of the business administration department, from 1986 to 1990 and from 1993 to 1996 director of the postgraduate course for business management (NDU) and also vice-rector from 1986 to 1990 and rector of the university from 1990 to 1993. In March 2000 he retired from the University of St. Gallen.

Guest and research semesters took Rolf Dubs to Harvard University, Cambridge MA, USA in the winter semester 1967/68, in the summer semester 1976 to Stanford University , Stanford CA, USA and in the summer semester 1983 to the University of Texas , Austin TX, USA. In the summer semester / winter semester 1993/94 he worked at Michigan State University , East Lansing MI, USA.

Honors

Rolf Dubs has received various honors. So the Dr. rer. soc. oec. hc from the Vienna University of Economics and Business , the Dr. sc.oec. hc from Budapest University of Economics, Dr. rer. pole. hc from the Technical University of Dresden and the Dr. hc from SEE University , Tetovo (Macedonia).

Prices

He was also allowed to receive a number of prizes. The prize for achievements in Swiss vocational training from the Hans Huber Foundation, the “golden slate” prizes for textbooks from the Youth and Business Association, the mentor prize from the student body at the University of St. Gallen, the Swiss Economic Education Prize, Zurich and the Hinrich -Wichern Prize, Bielefeld.

From 1972 to 1988 he was a member of the Grand Council of the Canton of St. Gallen , where he belonged to the FDP parliamentary group. Dubs was 1,987 to 1,992 militia - Brigadier of the Swiss army and led the Fortress Brigade 13 ( Sargans ).

From 2001 to 2010 as a member of the University Council of the University of Lucerne , from 1998 to 2008 as a member of the Board of the Asian Institute of Technology , Bangkok and from 1998 to 2009 as President of the University Council of the SEE University, Tetovo (Macedonia).

Rolf Dubs also worked as editor of the Swiss magazine for commercial education (Basel) (1965–2000) and as co-editor of the magazine for professional and business education (Stuttgart) (1992–2003).

Main focus of work and research

Rolf Dubs mainly worked in the areas of school management , teaching and learning behavior , school development , school quality , didactics of economics and curriculum design . He always combined his research work with political activities. For example, he was instrumental in ensuring that business subjects were recognized as full subjects at Swiss grammar schools . In addition, he was also committed to development projects around the world. His advisory and training activities for the Swiss Confederation took him to Rwanda , Tanzania , India , Vietnam , Thailand , Azerbaijan and China .
