Romain Jouan (born July 17, 1985 in Landerneau ) is a French tennis player .

Career

Romain Jouan started playing professional tennis tournaments quite late at the age of almost 20. There he played for a long time exclusively on the third-rate ITF Future Tour and reached his first individual final in 2007. His first appearance on the higher endowed ATP Challenger Tour was in Montauban in the same year when he lost at the beginning. Towards the end of the year he won his first future title, which made him in the world rankings for the first time in the top 500. In the following year he won two more futures and he qualified for the main draw at the ATP tournament in Metz , a tournament of the ATP World Tour , where he defeated the top 100 player Fabio Fognini . There he survived against the world number 51. Agustín Calleri started and then lost to Paul-Henri Mathieu . As a result, he improved by a further 50 places compared to the previous year and was in the top 400.

In 2009 he did not win a title in a future, but reached his first quarter-finals at the Challenger in Cherbourg and, thanks to a wildcard, was also in the main draw of a Grand Slam tournament for the first time at the French Open . There he had no chance against the number 6 in the world Andy Roddick . Jouan won his only Challenger title of his career in August 2009 in San Sebastian in doubles. In 2010 he was in an ATP main field in Montpellier and won a futures title in singles and two more in doubles - in the latter he won a total of five futures by 2012. 2011 was the Frenchman's most successful year. With a semi-final in Fürth and his first semi-final in Orbetello , he also qualified for the US Open , where he was left behind against Tomáš Berdych . At the beginning of 2012 he was at his career high with 209th place in singles and 206th place in doubles. However, by the end of the year, it fell out of the top 350.

In 2013 he won another future title before he had to take a long break in the middle of the year due to a shoulder injury. In 2014 and 2015 he was only able to play a few tournaments. It wasn't until 2016 that he was able to play tournaments regularly again and surprised at his first tournament of the year in Quimper with four wins in a row. A little later he won his sixth and final future title. After scratching the top 400 again in the meantime, he played his last season as a professional in 2017.
