Romance Dawn

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Under the title Romance Dawn , Mangaka Eiichirō Oda wrote two short stories during his time as assistant to Nobuhiro Watsuki , which are to be regarded as the forerunner of his successful series One Piece , the first chapter of which also bears the title with the appearance in Shōnen Jump .

The first, a 48-page version of the story, appeared in a special issue of the Japanese manga magazine Shōnen Jump in August 1996 and later in the special issue One Piece Red . A second, three-page shorter version was published in Shōnen Jump in autumn 1996, followed by the short story anthology Wanted! contain. This version was published in Germany at the start of Banzai! Magazine , before Odas Wanted! was later published in German.

The first version was animated by Toei Animation and shown with other short films at selected locations in Japan from September to November 2008 as part of the Jump Super Anime Tour . In April 2019 it was announced that the second version of Toei Animation would also be filmed. The special was produced for the anime's 20th anniversary and is slated to air in Japan on October 20, 2019, on the exact same day that the anime's first episode aired in 1999.

action

The first short story is about Luffy , who has been a pirate for some time and travels the seas. The flags of the pirate gangs who belong to the Morgania and whom he defeats on his way as a so-called Peacemain serve as sails for his small boat . Near an island, he meets another gang of Morgania sailing under the flag of Garry the Sickle-Bearded. Luffy does not hesitate, takes the crew by surprise and hijacks the ship while in a town on the island they prepare for the arrival of the pirate ship. Among the fearful residents, however, only one young woman is ready to go into battle against the approaching pirates: Silk.

After the ship has docked and Luffy enters the island, he is mistaken for Garry by the hiding residents and is finally attacked by Silk in an inn. But shortly afterwards the two get to know each other better: Luffy tells Silk about his past and that he doesn't want to belong to the crowd of pirates who loot, murder and pillage, the Morgania . His dream is much more of a Peace Main being what the Morgania hunt. Silk, on the other hand, is the daughter of a pirate who has abandoned her and found her home in the city.

In the course of this conversation, Garry and his gang manage to sneak onto the island. In front of the inn where Luffy and Silk were talking, he stops them, but they put Luffy to flight when they have to realize that he is superior with his strength as a "rubber man". Nevertheless, Luffy is taken by surprise and captivated by the residents of the village, who continue to confuse him with Garry, who is now using the moment to rob the village, Luffy for his treasure - the straw hat he had received from his great role model Shanks - to relieve and then throw it into the sea.

When Garry then leaves the island with his crew and his ship, Silk saves her new friend and pulls him ashore, who then catapults himself onto Garry's ship with his gum-gum powers. Without further ado, he sinks the ship with just one blow and brings the city what he thinks is the stolen treasure, before he sets off again with the captured flag as a new sail.

Years later, Luffy himself is the captain of a pirate ship and travels the oceans with Garry and Silk in his crew.

The second version of the story leaves Luffy in the captivity of another morganizer named Spiel, the hexagonal one , when the rare Roc - a kind of "panda bird" - named Balloon falls on his boat and Luffy makes fun of Spiel's head shape. In the brig of Spiel Schiff's ship, Luffy talks to Ann, who has owned the balloon since she was a child and who is her treasure, similar to Luffy's straw hat, which in this version of the story comes from Luffy's grandfather. When Luffy finally frees himself and Ann from the cell with his devil's powers, his cell mate asks him to use her to free the balloon, but Luffy just wants to find a new boat on the ship.

Ann is shot by Spiel shortly before she can free her balloon from his cell, and Spiel also shoots Luffy, whose rubber body throws the bullets back. In a careless moment, Spiel succeeds in stealing away with Ballon, but Luffy can catch up with him and free the Roc, who then returns to Ann with his liberator.
