Ronald W. Davis
Ronald Wayne Davis (born July 17, 1941 ) is an American geneticist and professor of biochemistry and genetics at Stanford University in Stanford , California .
Life
Davis earned a bachelor's degree in chemistry, physics, mathematics, and botany and a Ph.D. from Eastern Illinois University in Charleston , Illinois . in chemistry from the California Institute of Technology (Caltech) in Pasadena , California . Davis was a postdoctoral fellow at Harvard University in Cambridge , Massachusetts before joining the faculty at Stanford University in Stanford , California. Davis is married with two children.
Act
Davis is considered a leader in the development of biotechnological methods, especially in the development and application of genomics and recombinant DNA in biological systems. Davis developed a series of 5,000 strains of the baker's yeast Saccharomyces cerevisiae , each of which is missing a single gene . Methods for other model organisms - including humans - were developed. Davis' earlier merits lie in the development of quantitative studies of DNA using electron microscopy and the R-loop technique for mapping coding portions of RNA by electron microscopy .
Since his son became seriously ill, Davis has focused on research into Myalgic Encephalomyelitis / Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (ME / CFS). He founded the Chronic Fatigue Syndrome Research Center at Stanford University and leads the End ME / CFS Project . Davis is the chairman of the Open Medicine Foundation's Scientific Advisory Board .
