Rondi Reed (born October 26, 1952 in Dixon , Illinois ) is an American actress and singer .

Career

For many years, Reed was a member of the Steppenwolf Theater Company in Chicago , where she appeared in 51 productions. She starred on Broadway in The Rise and Fall of Little Voice , The Fruits of Wrath and many more. On July 13, 2005, she made her debut in the role of Madame Morrible in the production of the musical Wicked in Chicago. She later played the role of Mattie Fae Aiken in the Broadway production of August in Osage County for which she received a Tony Award .

In 2008 she took on the role of Madame Morrible in Wicked in Chicago again. After this engagement, she returned to the role of Mattie Fae Aiken in the production of August: Osage Country in London before returning to Broadway in March 2009 for the role of Madame Morrible in Wicked . She replaced actress Jayne Houdyshell and left the production in June 2010 to appear in the Australian production of August in Sydney , where she stayed until mid-August.

Reed appeared on an episode of the sitcom Seinfeld and gained greater prominence in Germany for her role as Peggy Biggs, Mike's mother, on the sitcom Mike & Molly .
