They can be reached by public transport via the bus stops Ronsdorfer Anlagen , Erbschlö and Parkstraße , which are served by the inner-city Wuppertal bus line 640 and (the latter) by the express bus lines CE 61, CE 62 and city bus lines 620 and 630. There are enough parking spaces nearby.

history

On September 6, 1869, citizens of the then independent town of Ronsdorf founded a beautification association , which had set itself the goal of preserving forest areas in the north of Ronsdorf for the population for the purpose of recreation, by creating new paths to make them better accessible to walkers care for. Over the years, individual forest areas were purchased by the members until the association was recognized as an independent body in 1892 and the individual plots could be transferred to it.

In the same year, work began on the construction of the Toelleturm - Ronsdorf section of the Ronsdorf-Müngstener Railway , which ran through the facilities. The single-track so-called forest section ran for almost a kilometer through the facilities; The Waldweiche with the Kaiserplatz / Waldweiche stop was located on today's Langen Wiese . Even if all the systems of the meter- gauge small railway or the later tram have been dismantled, the route of the railway can still be seen today.

The Elberfeld line of the Bergische Landwehr , which can still be recognized to some extent today, runs through the grounds of the facilities .

In the years 1936/1937 the northern part of the equipment was used by the Nazis virtually expropriated (there were as compensation only later worthless government bonds ) to here a feeder road (the Park Road ) to today's A 1 to set up and the area further north a new Strike location training area . After giving up the location of the Bundeswehr in Wuppertal, the association tried to buy back this northern area. These efforts were successful, so that in autumn 2011 a contract was concluded between the association and the construction and property company NRW for the return of the claimed area in return for a comparatively small payment . Since 2012, most of the areas that were separated at the time have been owned by the association again and are now part of the facilities.

Today's facilities

In their current expansion, the facilities have again covered an area of over 31 hectares (ha) since 2012, of which approx. 20 hectares are in the previous, southern part. This extends from the road in the Crimea in the immediate vicinity of Villa Carnap in the south to the watershed at the level of the L 419 and has a several kilometers long and closely meshed network of paths with numerous benches. The forest consists mainly of deciduous forest with a biotope with oak and beech trees . On the site there is a playground , a football field , two shelters and two larger open areas, the Lange Wiese and the Kaiserplatz .

The northern area, which was only annexed again in 2012, is 12-13 hectares in size, with mixed forest and at least partially belongs to the Scharpenacken . It is a former part of the abandoned training area of the no longer existing Wuppertal barracks and extends from Parkstrasse to the Plattenteich ( Bergische dialects : Plattendiek ), a smaller pond already artificially created by the Wehrmacht for tank exercises in waters. To the west, this new area is delimited by the Waldkampfbahn , the sports facility of TSV 05 Ronsdorf eV , and the new industrial area Engineering Park on the area of the Generaloberst-Hoepner barracks . To the east in the direction of Erbschlö / Blombach is the Wuppertal-Ronsdorf correctional facility , the no longer used property of the former site administration , which is to be integrated into a planned new building for the riot police , as well as other areas intended for new construction measures in the state of North Rhine-Westphalia .

The forest area is now a popular recreational area, especially for walkers and joggers.
