action

Milly Cohen had to give up her art studies after the accidental death of her parents and lives with her little brother Kevin with her grandmother in Cornwall . After trying out various jobs, she is now the right-hand man of the antique dealer Phillip Barnes. Phillip is often quite obnoxious. Milly, lovely to look at, happy and quick-witted, usually has interesting stories to tell about the precious antiques she sells, so that customers keep coming back with enthusiasm. When Milly's little brother becomes seriously ill, the young woman has to cut back on her job, for which her boss has absolutely no understanding. When Phillip once again showed particularly little empathy for her situation, Milly quit without further ado. Only now, when he has to deal with incompetent successors to Milly, does Phillip realize what he had in her. And there is something else he is surprised to see, he not only misses Milly in business, but at all. Milly meanwhile has completely different worries, her little brother had a breakdown and in the hospital it is discovered that he has a heart defect and should be operated on immediately. Milly cannot raise the necessary capital on her own.

Milly's grandmother Cathy has now contacted her great love Lord David Forster, who was in America for a long time . His snobbish family made sure that the two could not live their love. He wants to finally confess to Cathy.

Phillip, who has now realized that he loves Milly, persuades her not to refuse his invitation to dinner together. The other day he gives her a very precious little grandfather clock that has a very special story and that he knows has an extraordinary meaning for Milly, and is sure that Milly understands what he is trying to tell her. When Milly learns the enormous value of this gift, she wonders whether Phillip even knows what the watch is really worth. She decides to return the present. She has enclosed a letter in which she explains to Phillip how precious the watch is and that she would accept it if he gave it back to her with this knowledge. Phillip's sister Rachel, who received the watch, destroys the letter and tells her brother that Milly refuses his gift and that he shouldn't contact her anymore. She doesn't want Phillip to form a "below his level" bond.

At a garden party, Phillip, who is also invited there, overhears Milly hugging and kissing her boyfriend Tristan. He doesn't know that it was out of gratitude because Tristan gave her a ring to sell to fund Kevin's operation . Disappointed, Phillip turns away. Out of gratitude, Milly wants to accept Tristan’s marriage proposal, but is unsettled by a conversation with her grandmother, who urges her to reconsider her decision.

It is David Forster, Phillip's godfather, who makes sure that Phillip learns what worries Milly has and David reacts immediately by anonymously providing the money for Kevin's necessary operation. Ultimately, all misunderstandings are cleared up thanks to the help of David Forster and Cathy's grandmother. The two want to prevent decades from passing, as was the case with them, before the young people get together. And a secret of a special kind will also be revealed. Milly and Kevin, who have now successfully survived his heart surgery, are the grandchildren of Lord David Forster.
