Life

Rosemary Odell was hired by Universal Studios as a costume designer in 1945 . She delivered her first work for B-films with a running time of around 60 minutes. The first large-scale production of her career was Jules Dassin's prison film Cell R 17 in 1947, starring Burt Lancaster . Odell designed the costumes for the female part of the cast, including Yvonne De Carlo , Ann Blyth and Ella Raines . Odell was used several times in the films produced by Universal for the comedian duo Abbott and Costello . She also made the costumes for a number of comedies starring Donald O'Connor . During her time at Universal, where Bill Thomas was entrusted with the costume design for the studio's most important films, Odell was often responsible for westerns , such as Anthony Mann's Mutiny on the Serpent River ( 1952) and Andrew V. McLaglen's Rancho River (1966) James Stewart each in the lead role. But also dramas like Mark Robson's Victory over Darkness and horror films like Behind the Walls of Horror , both from 1951, are among her works.

She has also repeatedly created film costumes for Universal's rising stars Rock Hudson and Tony Curtis . In Delbert Mann's film comedy A Touch of Mink (1962) she was in turn responsible for the costumes of Doris Day , the studio's greatest star at the time. Odell was also involved in Jack Arnold's first science fiction film Danger from Space (1953). Other directors she has worked under include Raoul Walsh , Douglas Sirk , Nathan Juran , George Marshall , Norman Jewison and Michael Anderson . In the late 1960s, Odell withdrew from the film business.
