Rotensee is a village in the municipality of Hauneck in the Hersfeld-Rotenburg district .
history
In a document dated April 1, 1292, Rotensee was first documented as "Rotense". This document deals with the dispute between Werner von Reichenbach and Abbot Heinrich von Hersfeld and his church. From 1343 to 1364 Rotensee is mentioned as "Rotensehe vila". In 1564 the abbot von Hersfeld and the lords of Buchenau shared the rights to the teams, services and gradients to which the residents were obliged. At the same time, Abbot Michael Rotensee assigned the newly created court to Petersberg, while the court was located on the Johannesberg, where the Lords of Buchenau acted as bailiffs. At times there were two districts of Rotensee: from 1385 to the 16th century one speaks of "Nidderen Rotensehen" and "Obirnrotensehen". Since 1610 the name of the place is only Rotensee.
On December 31, 1971, Rotensee was incorporated into the newly formed community of Hauneck.
