Oberhaun is a district of the Hauneck municipality in the Hersfeld-Rotenburg district in eastern Hesse .

Geographical location

The district is located in the lower Haunetal at an average altitude of 210  m above sea level. NN on both sides of the Haune , before the river flows into the Fulda about 5 kilometers north in Bad Hersfeld . The historic town center is on the left side of the Haune.

The federal road 27 and the Bebra – Fulda railway line run east of the town center . Local public transport is operated by the NVV with line 365. The nearest airports are Frankfurt Airport in Frankfurt am Main and the Kassel-Calden regional airport .

On March 8, 1230 Oberhaun was first mentioned in a document as "superiori Huna". In this document, Abbot Ludwig von Hersfeld certifies an exchange of goods between Probst Wigand von Johannesberg and the local convent. 1359 Oberhaun is mentioned as "Oberhune". It is the land of the Lords of Buchenau, who had the neck court there. At the turn of the 17th century, there are reports of the paper mill, but it only brought in little. Even today, part of the place along the federal road 27 bears the name "paper mill".

On December 31, 1971, Oberhaun was incorporated into the newly formed community of Hauneck as part of the regional reform in Hesse .
