Rott is a district of the municipality Neustadt (Wied) in the district of Neuwied in the northern Rhineland-Palatinate .
geography
Rott is located in the Rhine-Westerwald Nature Park , about four kilometers west of the main town of Neustadt (Wied), on the so-called "Rhein-Wied-Ridge" above the Waldbreitbacher Wiedtal . The state road 251, which runs on the northern edge of the village, connects the village with the Wied and Rhine valleys . Near Rott, the community of Neustadt borders on St. Katharinen .
history
The place was probably created during the clearing periods in the 9th and 10th centuries. From the middle of the 13th century to the beginning of the 19th century, the village belonged to the Electorate of Cologne . The place belonged to the monastery "Elsaff im Thal" in the parish of Neustadt and to the office of Altenwied . In 1660 there were five farms in Rott. This is also the first sure documentary mention of the place.
The rule of Kurköln ended in 1803 after more than 500 years with the Reichsdeputationshauptschluss . The Electoral Cologne area in this region was initially assigned to the Principality of Wied-Runkel , became part of the Duchy of Nassau in 1806 due to the Rhine Confederation Act and, after the Congress of Vienna in 1815, to the Kingdom of Prussia . From 1816 to Rott belonged to the municipality Elsaffthal in the then newly formed district Neuwied in Koblenz and was supported by the mayor Neustadt managed that to 1848 for civil magnificent part belonged to the circle Neuwied.
In 1817 the place had 86 inhabitants, in 1846 there were 130 inhabitants in 20 residential buildings and in 1885 Rott had 119 inhabitants who lived in 23 residential buildings.
Since January 1, 1969 Rott is part of the municipality Neustadt (Wied) . In 1987 Rott had 176 inhabitants.
Culture and sights
Chapel of the Birth of Mary
The chapel "Mariä Birth" in the center of the village was built in 1824 by the residents of Rott. Stones from the nearby Altenwied castle ruins were also used as building material . In 1928 the chapel was renovated and the choir added. A transverse building was added in 1936/1937. The chapel was last renovated in 2002. It offers space for 120 people. The Chapel Preservation Association takes care of the maintenance of the chapel. The chapel “Mariä Birth” in Rott is a branch church of the Catholic parish “St. Margarita ”in Neustadt, which belongs to the Trier diocese .
societies
- The "Dorfgemeinschaft Rott" is an informal association of the people of Rotterdam to preserve the village tradition. The formation of the village community goes back to 1904. The activities of the village community include organizing the “village festival” and the fair, as well as setting the maypole .
- The "St. Sebastianus Schützenbruderschaft Rott-Wied eV “was founded in 1925. It is the largest club in Rott. The current rifle house was built in 1965 and is the only venue in the village. On October 16, 2018, the club house of the Rott-Wied eV rifle brotherhood burned down completely. Completion of a new club house is planned for mid-2020. The club house is being rebuilt.
