The Rudolf Diesel Gymnasium Augsburg ( RDG for short ) in the Augsburg district of Hochzoll has existed since 1976 and is the youngest state high school in Augsburg.
history
The Rudolf-Diesel-Gymnasium originally planned as a school center, at that time still called "Peterhof-Gymnasium", was planned and built from 1969 to 1976 to relieve the Augsburg schools, which were already overburdened for a long time. Since there were concerns that the planned school center could ultimately lead to the comprehensive school model , it was decided after the completion of the first building for the purely grammar school type. This decision obviously had financial reasons as well, because, among other things, there was no need to build an own thermal power station. On September 16, 1976, the school started teaching with 613 students in 17 classes. The modern "industrial architecture", which was built on 70,000 m² of former arable land, was initially controversial among the citizens. There was even talk of similarities to a nuclear power station. When choosing the namesake of the school, originally the Ministry of Culture under the term school Augsburg high tariff was performed, also was Bertolt Brecht and Elias Holl discussed, finally the high school but was on April 7, 1977 by the world-renowned inventor Rudolf Diesel named.
With a total area of 70,000 m², the school is probably one of the largest grammar schools in Bavaria. The Rudolf Diesel Gymnasium has had a cafeteria since March 2007 , which was built due to the transition to an eight-year gymnasium .
