The Jakob-Fugger-Gymnasium (“Fugger” for short) is a coeducational high school with a focus on economics, technology , economics and social sciences in Augsburg . It is located in the Stadtjägerviertel , Augsburg's fifth district, at the north-western foot of the elevated terrace on which, between Lech and Wertach, old Augsburg was founded. Since the 2007/2008 school year, the grammar school in Kriemhildenstrasse has been offering a bound all-day school concept in addition to the regular classes .

history

Entrance to the A wing / administration wing

The Jakob-Fugger-Gymnasium was founded in 1879 under the name Stahlmann'sche private commercial school. At the beginning, a focus was placed on economics subjects.

The new school building at Jesuitengasse 14 was officially opened on November 18, 1886. The city council of Augsburg decided in November 1922 that the school should be completely managed by the city. On 25/26 In February 1945 the school building in Jesuitengasse was completely destroyed by a bomb attack. On December 6, 1945, the school was reopened in the rooms of the St. Georg elementary school under extremely difficult conditions.

At the end of 1953, the first phase of construction of the new school building on Siegfriedstrasse began, which was completed in 1955. In 1955 the school was named in order to “honor the old families of the city of Augsburg” with Jakob Fugger , as the city council justified at the time. With their namesake, the school profile and school motto not only focus on the rich and economically successful citizens of Augsburg, but also on the social ethicist who, with the Fuggerei, set up a foundation that was unique in its time and which is still internationally recognized today.

From the 1960/61 school year, the higher commercial school was expanded into a nine-class commercial upper secondary school. The uniform name Gymnasium introduced in the school year 1965/66 for all higher school types led to the current name Jakob-Fugger-Gymnasium ( scientific-technological high school and economic and social science high school with a focus on economics) in connection with the reorganization of the training directions in 2003 .

School profile

The municipal Jakob-Fugger-Gymnasium is a traditional and innovative school in the center of Augsburg. With qualified lessons, various offers of individual support and a wide range of options, we offer our students solid training that meets individual learning requirements and different inclinations and interests. The Jakob-Fugger-Gymnasium sees itself not only as a place of learning, but is also a living space for successful cooperation among the entire school community.

Language sequence

All pupils begin in the 5th grade with English, in the 6th grade they can choose between Latin and French. In the 10th grade, all branches have the option of choosing Spanish as a foreign language that starts late and must be continued until the Abitur and replaces the second foreign language.

Training directions

Economics and social science education with an economics profile (WWG-W)

In WWG-W, economics and law are added as a new subject from the 8th grade. A specialty of WWG-W is the subject of business informatics from the 9th grade onwards. A further profile is created through the elective courses. In the upper level, the IHK business certificate can be acquired by taking a business administration profile course.

Scientific and technological training (NTG)

In the NTG, chemistry is represented with additional hours from the 8th grade onwards for physics. The use of the additional profile lessons allows the classes to be divided into physics and chemistry lessons in order to experiment in small groups. In the 9th grade, the new subject of computer science is added to the NTG.

All day offer

At the Jakob-Fugger-Gymnasium, there are tied full-day classes in the fifth, sixth and seventh grades in addition to the regular classes. This "Augsburg model", unique in Swabia, is based on the following principles:

  • The specialist lessons in the core subjects German, English and mathematics are expanded by eight hours. In these core subjects, the written homework is done in school.
  • The written homework is thus integrated into the practice phases of this subject lesson.
  • The burden of oral homework in non-school subjects outside of the extended subject class is limited. The students have to do these tasks independently at home.
  • In the practice phases of the subject class, the students also practice learning and working techniques.
  • Fixed time slots are set for specialist lessons, extended specialist lessons and elective lessons (e.g. choir, school game, school garden , keyboard course, instrumental lessons and robotics).

This concept creates a clear rhythmization of the class day.

Since the 2009/2010 school year, there has also been an open all-day program for schoolchildren in the regular classes.
