Rudolf Bergius

Rudolf Johannes Wilhelm Bergius (born April 22, 1914 in Carlshof ; † March 9, 2004 in Starnberg ) was a German psychologist .

Life

Bergius was born the son of a pastor in East Prussia . He grew up as an orphan in Bitterfeld . After graduating from high school , he began studying theology at the Martin Luther University in Halle-Wittenberg . Through Adhémar Gelb he came into contact with psychology ; However, he studied German and English . From 1935 to 1937 he did labor and military service . Bergius then resumed his studies at the Friedrich Wilhelms University in Berlin . During this time he was friends with the Indian psychology student Kripal Singh Sodhi , who had lived in Berlin since 1937. In 1939 he completed the rigorosum for his doctorate ( distraction from work by noise and music and their structural-typological relationships ) with Hans Keller ; The second reviewer was Eduard Spranger . In the Second World War he did military service (from 1939), he passed the examination for the higher teaching qualification (1940) and was eventually taken prisoner by the Americans .

From 1945 to 1950 he practiced psychological work in Halle (Saale) (Ministry for Labor and Social Welfare) and Merseburg (main welfare office) . In 1950 he fled the GDR and became Oswald Kroh's assistant at the Institute for Psychology at the Free University of Berlin . In 1954/55 he completed his habilitation at the Philosophical Faculty with the work forms of future experience . In 1956 he became a private lecturer .

This was followed by an appointment to Munich , initially as an unscheduled, then as a planned extraordinary and from 1963 as a full professor . From 1965 to 1979 he taught at the Eberhard Karls University in Tübingen . He researched u. a. in the fields of prejudice research , perception , development and peace psychology . His academic students included u. a. Paul Klein .

In 1986 he became an honorary member of the German Society for Psychology , of which he was chairman from 1966 to 1968, because of his achievements in general psychology and social psychology .
