Paul Klein (sociologist)

Paul Klein (born January 10, 1941 in St. Wendel ) is a German military sociologist and psychologist. He was Senior Scientific Director and Deputy Head of the Social Science Institute of the Bundeswehr (SOWI) in Strausberg.

Life

Klein grew up in Saarland . After graduating from high school in St. Wendel in 1962, he joined the army of the German Armed Forces as a reserve officer candidate . From 1962 to 1965 he served as a temporary soldier (SaZ 3) in the mountain troops and most recently held the rank of lieutenant colonel in the reserve .

After serving in the 231 Mountain Hunter Battalion in Bad Reichenhall , he studied psychology , sociology , pedagogy and library science at the Eberhard Karls University of Tübingen and the University of Hamburg from 1966 to 1971 . He finished his studies in 1971 as a qualified psychologist in 1971. From 1971 to 1974 he was head of the psychological service at the district military replacement office in Wiesbaden .

He was then at Rudolf Bergius at the Faculty of Social and Behavioral Sciences, Education at the University of Tübingen with a dissertation judgments young French workers on German before, during and after a year working stay in Germany for Dr. rer. soc. PhD. In 1974 he became a research assistant at the Social Science Institute of the Bundeswehr (SOWI) in Munich / Strausberg. There he was initially project manager and rose to senior scientific director and deputy institute director. In addition, from 1977 he was a lecturer, deputy professor and visiting professor at the University of the Federal Armed Forces in Munich and the University of Toulouse . In 2004 he was retired.

He published numerous writings. He has made particular contributions to the military multinationality (studies on the German-French Brigade and the 1st German-Dutch Corps ), the military sociology and the population surveys of the SOWI. In addition, he made important contributions to research into the corps of non-commissioned officers , the defense structure and the future of the armed forces.

He is honorary chairman and member of the Working Group on the Military and Social Sciences (AMS).

Klein is married and has one son. He lives in the Munich district .
