Rudolf Rossmeisl

Rudolf Rossmeisl (born August 5, 1923 in Rothau , Czechoslovakia , † March 16, 1986 ) was a German diplomat and ambassador of the German Democratic Republic in Poland and Hungary .

Life

Rudolf Rossmeisl lived in Czechoslovakia until 1945 , where he graduated from primary school and trained as a locksmith. In 1937 he became a member of the Communist Youth Association of Czechoslovakia and organized himself as a union. In 1945 he was given the option to stay on the territory of the former Protectorate of Bohemia and Moravia , but in 1946 he moved to the Soviet occupation zone .

In 1946 he was taken over by the SED as a party member, where he worked as a functionary until 1950. In May 1950 he joined the Ministry for Foreign Affairs of the GDR (MfAA). Until 1956 he was accredited at the embassy in Poland, headed the Asian People's Democracies department at the MfAA and was finally counselor in the People's Republic of China. From 1956 to 1960 he was counselor in Moscow. From 1956 to 1959 he was head of the press department of the MfAA. In December 1968 he replaced Karl Mewis as ambassador in Warsaw. On January 11, 1973, notes were exchanged in Warsaw that raised diplomatic relations between fascist Spain and the German Democratic Republic to the level of embassies. The exchange of notes took place between the GDR ambassador to the People's Republic of Poland, Rudolf Rossmeisl, and the head of the Spanish consular and trade mission in the People's Republic of Poland, Emilio Beladiez. Rossmeisl remained ambassador to Poland until July 1973. He then acted as head of the Neighboring Countries department at the MfAA until 1979 (successor to Franz Everhartz ). From June 1979 to June 1983 he was the GDR ambassador to Hungary. After his return he was again head of the department for neighboring countries in the MfAA until he retired in 1984.

Rossmeisl died at the age of 62 and was buried in the Friedrichsfelde central cemetery.
