Horst Neubauer (born July 6, 1936 in Pockau in the Erzgebirge ) is a former German diplomat . He was ambassador of the German Democratic Republic and the last head of the permanent representation of the GDR in Bonn ; he lives as a pensioner in Berlin .

Life

Horst Neubauer was born into a working-class family. After attending primary school, he trained as a salesman and worked in this profession in Marienberg and Dresden . He obtained his Abitur in 1956 at the workers and farmers faculty in Dresden. In 1956 he began studying at the Institute for International Relations at the German Academy for Political Science and Law , which he graduated in 1960 with a degree in political science. He then worked in various departments at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the GDR (MfAA). In 1964 he became the personal assistant to the Deputy Foreign Ministers Johannes König and Oskar Fischer . From 1966 to 1970 he worked as 2nd secretary at the embassy in Moscow . From 1970 he was an employee and from 1973 to 1980 sector head for the socialist countries in the International Relations Department of the Central Committee of the Socialist Unity Party of Germany . From December 1980 to April 1988 he was ambassador to the People's Republic of Poland and from June 1988 to 1990 head of the Permanent Mission of the GDR in Bonn . From 1990 to 2000 he worked for a property developer in Bremen .

Neubauer had been a member of the SED since 1958 . At the 10th party congress of the SED in April 1981 he was first elected to the SED Central Committee as a candidate and in June 1988 by the 6th Central Committee meeting as a member. He was a member of the Central Committee until its resignation on December 3, 1989.
