Rudolf Friedrich Leopold Hildebrand , from 1871 von Hildebrand (born February 5, 1822 in Aschersleben , † December 22, 1900 in Hanover ) was a Prussian major general and commander of the 8th Infantry Brigade .

Rudolf was a son of the Prussian Colonel Leopold Hildebrand (1790–1878) and his wife Rosine, born von Fischer-Treuenfeld (1789–1872), a sister of Lieutenant General Christian von Fischer-Treuenfeld (1788–1870).

Military career

After attending grammar school in his hometown as well as the cadet houses in Potsdam and Berlin , Hildebrand was transferred to the 27th Infantry Regiment of the Prussian Army on August 8, 1839 as porter ensign. In mid-June 1842 he advanced to the position of redundant second lieutenant , was placed on the budget at the end of October 1842 and added to the budget on June 22, 1846. From the beginning of September 1848 Hildebrand was a battalion adjutant and rose to prime lieutenant in March 1854 . From April 1854 to June 1859 he was commanded as a company commander at III. Battalion in the 27th Landwehr Regiment in Aschersleben. During this command he was promoted to captain on February 12, 1859 and appointed company commander in his main regiment on August 18, 1860 . During the war against Austria Hildebrand took part in the battles at Münchengrätz , Preßburg and Königgrätz , advanced to major on July 20, 1866 and received the Order of the Red Eagle, 4th class with swords , for his work .

On November 9, 1866 he was appointed commander of the Fusilier Battalion and promoted to lieutenant colonel on July 26, 1870 in this position . He led his battalion in 1870/71 in the war against France at Beaumont , Toul , Mouzon and before Paris .
