Rupert Erythropel

Rupert Erythropel (also: Ruppertus or Rupertus Erythropilus or Erytropilus as well as Rupert Rothut ) (* 1556 in Schmallenberg , † October 7, 1626 in Hanover ) was a German Protestant pastor in Hanover and ancestor of one of the oldest Hanoverian scholar families , the Erythropels , whose descendants up to Lived in Hanover in 1983. He transferred the original family name Rothut into Greek , "non arroganter, sed pro more seculi istiu" ("not haughty, but according to the nature of the times").

Life

Rupert was born as the son of the businessman Heinrich Rothuet and his wife Clara (née Kummer, also: Cumer, Latin: Cumera Cumeria, Cieruvia), probably on March 27, Rupert's Day . If it had been up to his father, he should have become a businessman too. However, he showed a tendency towards a learned education from early childhood. After the father accepted this development, he attended various schools. So in Soste, Ahlen, Bühren, Wetter, Marburg, Gronau, Hildesheim and Braunschweig. In Braunschweig he became an associate of Martin Chemnitz , whom he accompanied to negotiations on the apology of the concord formula in Erfurt, where he worked as a clerk.

Around 1581 he completed his studies at the University of Leipzig , where among other things Matthäus Dresser was one of his teachers. In March 1585 he went to the University of Wittenberg , where he was promoted to a master's degree in philosophical sciences in the same month and was promoted by Polkarp Leyser the Elder . In 1585 he became vice rector in Hanover, in the following year he was appointed pastor at the Kreuzkirche there and in 1596 he worked as pastor at St. Georgs or Marktkirche .

family

The ancestor of the Hanoverian family Erythropel married Margarethe Falkenreich on June 9, 1588 in Hanover (born October 20, 1571 in Hanover; † August 27, 1633 ibid.), To. d. Councilor in Hanover Gottschalk Falkenreich and his wife Catharina (née Jungknecht). The marriage resulted in four sons and five daughters. The father and mother survived three sons and a daughter. From the children we know:

From the times of the plague in Hannover evidence for the claim narrated that seemingly dead were sometimes buried alive: When a friend Erythropels should be buried, the pastor left before burial the lid of the coffin open again. Then the "dead man" straightened up and "greeted the clergyman."
