Rupert reader

Rupert Leser (born December 29, 1933 in Waldsee ; † August 10, 2017 there ) was a German photographer .

Life

After completing an apprenticeship and master craftsman's training as a typesetter , he turned to photography as an autodidact and lateral entrant and worked as a photo reporter mainly for the Schwäbische Zeitung and the Stern .

He became known to a wider public through numerous book publications and exhibitions.

In addition to portraits and landscapes, his artistic focus was on sports images. He documented the Olympic Games twelve times .

He has received numerous prizes for his achievements, including over 30 awards from the Association of German Sports Journalists and the 1973 and 1974 award for the “Best Sports Image of the Year”.

The photographer's archive has been in the House of History Baden-Württemberg in Stuttgart since 2008 . From December 17, 2010 to September 11, 2011, a large retrospective on Leser's work was shown there under the title “ From Bad Waldsee to LA Rupert readers, photo reporters ”.
