Street description

Ruta 8 begins in the town of San Estanislao on Ruta 3 . The road leads south through a hilly savannah that is partially built up. This area is very sparsely populated. After almost 100 kilometers you reach the city of Coronel Oviedo, an important hub of eastern Paraguay. The route 2 from Asunción and route 7 to Ciudad del Este cross here. Ruta 8 leads further south; to the west of the route is Cerro Pero, the highest mountain in Paraguay at 842 meters. The road goes through some small towns and through the savannah with some meadows and wetlands. In the south of Paraguay it is partly unpaved. It ends in the town of Coronel Bogado at an intersection with Ruta 1 .

history

The Ruta 8 is traditionally a main road in Paraguay, also because it leads to some larger cities. The northern part from San Estanislao to Caazapa was paved in 2013, but the southern part from Caazapa to Coronel Bogado was not.
