Ruth Schleiermacher , married Ruth Budzisch , (born November 3, 1949 in Wunsiedel ) is a former German speed skater who won numerous national and international competitions between 1966 and 1972.

Life and sporting development

As part of the promotion of sport in the GDR , Ruth was discovered early on as a speed skater. In the speed skating group of the company sports association Motor Plauen, the trainer Peter Zeller developed the running talent until April 1965. Schleiermacher then moved to the sports base of SC Dynamo Berlin , where the trainer Helmut Kuhnert worked with her. Together they were able to contest numerous competitions and achieve success. The runner mainly completed the distances of 500 meters to 1500 meters and was one of the sprinters. During her active time, she set one official and two unofficial world records as well as another 27 GDR records. In 1968 and 1972 she was one of the GDR participants in the Winter Olympics. Ruth Schleiermacher ended her sporting career in the mid-1970s. She lives in Berlin.

Successes (selection)

  • Her best placement at the Olympic Games was an 8th place over 1500 meters in 2: 27.10 minutes in Grenoble .
  • On February 4, 1969, she became world champion over 500 m in Davos in a world record time of 44.60 seconds.
  • At the all-round world championships in 1969, she achieved 4th place in the mini four-way fight.
  • In 1971 she won the sprint world championships (sprint four-way fight) in Inzell .
  • Between 1968 and 1972 Ruth Schleiermacher dominated all GDR championships.
