During the NHL Entry Draft 2000 , the defender was selected by the New York Islanders in the seventh round in a total of 202nd place. Then Caldwell moved to the 2004/05 season in the American Hockey League to the Bridgeport Sound Tigers , the farm team of the Islanders. In the following season he completed two games in the National Hockey League , but could not achieve a scorer point.
In the summer of 2006, the Canadian signed a contract as a free agent with the Columbus Blue Jackets , where he was only used by their farm team, the Syracuse Crunch . After another year with the Phoenix Coyotes , for which he played two games, the management of the DEG Metro Stars noticed him. Finally, Caldwell could be transferred to Düsseldorf as a replacement for Robert Dietrich, who had recently emigrated and for whom Caldwell played two years. For the 2010/11 season , Caldwell switched to the Kassel Huskies , but was initially without a club after they were excluded from the DEL. In November 2010 the Canadian was signed by Porin Ässät from the SM-liiga .
