Ryan Stanton (born July 20, 1989 in St. Albert , Alberta ) is a Canadian ice hockey player who has been under contract with the Ontario Reign of the American Hockey League since July 2019 and plays for them in the position of defender .
Career
Stanton played four full seasons for the Moose Jaw Warriors in the Western Hockey League during his junior years between 2006 and 2010 . The offensive defender continuously increased his points, but was not selected in any NHL Entry Draft .
The free agent was signed by the Chicago Blackhawks from the National Hockey League in March 2010 , who used him for the next three years on their farm team , the Rockford IceHogs , in the American Hockey League . With the exception of a game for the Blackhawks in the NHL during the 2012/13 season , he was used there exclusively. In the summer of 2013, after his contract expired, Stanton was signed by the Vancouver Canucks , where he was a regular player until 2015 and played 118 games for the Canadians. He collected 27 points scorer . After two years in Vancouver, he moved to the Washington Capitals - again as a free agent . There the defender found himself again in the AHL with the Hershey Bears . He was only used once for the capital city club during the 2015/16 season . In July 2016 he finally switched to the Colorado Avalanche organization , which sent him to their AHL farm team San Antonio Rampage after the pre-season . After he had completed 15 games there by the end of November, he was given in exchange for Cody Goloubef to the Columbus Blue Jackets , who deposited him on their farm team Cleveland Monsters .
After the end of the 2016/17 season, his contract in Columbus was not renewed, so he joined the Edmonton Oilers as a free agent . There he was used exclusively in the AHL with the Bakersfield Condors for two years before signing an AHL-limited contract with the Ontario Reign in July 2019 .
