Southern Alberta is one of the six regions in the Canadian province of Alberta .

The Southern Alberta region includes the Canadian Great Plains and is bounded to the west by the Canadian Rocky Mountains and their foothills. The western region is dominated by the semi-arid mixed grass prairies of the Palliser triangle , where numerous farms and ranches can be found. In the northern area are the badlands , which continue to central Alberta .

Waters

The rivers mentioned all drain north into the Hudson Bay , only the latter Milk River drains south into the Gulf of Mexico .

Attractions

In addition to the Canadian Rocky Mountains and various national and provincial parks, near Fort Macleod , Head-Smashed-In Buffalo Jump is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and National Historic Site of Canada .
