The Special Broadcasting Service ( SBS ) is one of the two public broadcasting companies in Australia alongside the Australian Broadcasting Corporation .

The SBS operates several radio stations as well as the television stations Special Broadcasting Service and SBS World News Channel . The radio programs are broadcast in 68 languages, including German.

SBS broadcasts numerous news programs from different countries around the world. These are broadcast in the native languages ​​of the many immigrants living in Australia. It sends messages from Japan , Hong Kong , China , the Philippines , Italy , Germany , Spain , France , Russia , Greece , Arabia and Indonesia , among others . The Eurovision Song Contest (ESC) has been broadcast on SBS since 1983 , making the competition famous in Australia. At the ESC 2015 , SBS submitted an entry for Australia in the competition for the first time. Although an Australian victory in 2015 was originally set as a prerequisite for the country's participation in 2016, Australia also took part in the Eurovision Song Contest 2016 in Stockholm and took second place. The country also took part in the Eurovision Song Contest in 2018 , with the Australian singer Jessica Mauboy representing the country with the song We Got Love . She started in the 2nd semifinals. In 2019 Australia took part with singer Kate Miller-Heidke and won 9th place with Zero Gravity .

SBS is the football channel on public television.The football world championships for men in 2006, 2010 and 2014 and for women in 2007, 2011, 2015 and 2019 were shown on SBS.
