The Scharmützelsee e. V. (SGS) is the largest sailing club in Brandenburg with over 200 members . The site of the association, founded in 1954, is located on the west bank of the Scharmützelsee in the bay of Dorf Saarow , a residential area of the thermal brine and mud spa Bad Saarow in the Oder-Spree district . The listed sailing home was built around 1775/76 and belonged to the Saarow manor .

history

Sailing on the Scharmützelsee

After Ludwig Lesser , designed the core of today's Bad Saarow, Bad Saarow Center on behalf of the Land Bank AG Berlin on the drawing board and had to create an elegant country houses along the previously uninhabited northern shore of the Scharmützelsee from 1906, in 1910 the first were sports sailboats registered on the lake.

Probably the first sailing club, the “Scharmützelsee sailing club”, was founded in March 1921 by six Fürstenwalder craftsmen and tradespeople at Cecilienpark on the east bank. In May 1921 a sailing regatta with 80 boats and in 1926 the 1st federal sailing regatta took place on the lake. In 1927 the first "Scharmützelsee Week" for sailors was held. The shoreline south of the Saarow peninsula (Alte Eichen 3) was founded in 1929 by the “ Zeuthener Segler-Verein e. V. "(now based at the Great Wannsee in Berlin ) and is now the seat of the" Saarower Segler-Verein am Werl e. V. “(SSVaW). Werl is the name of the two islands of the Scharmützelsee (Großer and Kleiner Werl) located in front of the peninsula. In addition to the SGS and the SSVaW, there are now a few other sailing clubs on the Scharmützelsee.

Establishment of the SGS and facilities

In 1927, the Berlin Yacht Club from Grünau acquired the property of today's SGS in Regattastraße 2 as its second property or as a branch. After the Second World War , the sailing home and the grounds were awarded to the Free German Youth (FDJ). After the Bad Saarow-Pieskow sports club was founded in 1949, their water sports enthusiasts took over the property as their domicile. In 1954, the water sports enthusiasts of the sports community started their own business and founded the SG Scharmützelsee. Today (as of 2014) there is a trade fair, sailing harbor, boat shed and sailing accommodation on the extensive club premises. The association sees its focus on child and youth work and regatta sailing. The Scharmützelsee water rescue station of the DLRG is also located on the site .

Sailing area and regattas

The Scharmützelsee, a typical glacial Rinnensee , is around 10 kilometers long and has an area of 12.1 km², the second largest natural lake in Brandenburg after the Schwielochsee . In the south, the lake is connected to the Berlin waters via the Wendisch Rietzer Fließ, the other Storkower waters and the Dahme .

In 1996 the SGS organized the German sailing championships in the Dyas class on the Scharmützelsee. In 1999 the German championships in the H-boat class and in 2001 the veterans' world championships in sailing in the Europe class took place on the lake . In 2014 alone, the SGS held six different regattas, including the “NORTH-SAILS Opti-Cup” ( Opti A, Opti B ) for young people and the Scharmützelseemarathon for all classes ( yardstick ).

Listed sailing home

Listed sailing home

The SGS sailing home is protected as a monument . The twin room is located on a hill above the Seglerhafen and belonged to the Saarow estate, which was owned by the von Löschebrand family from 1463 until it died out in 1860.

In the 1990s, a wood sample from a beam was examined dendrochronologically . The German Archaeological Institute came to the conclusion that the pine was felled in the winter of 1774/75. So the house was probably built in 1775 or shortly thereafter. Around 1900, the community gardener Paul Schlieben lived in the thatched half-timbered house . After the acquisition in 1927, the Berlin-Grünau Yacht Club had the house rebuilt and a seating area, a tap room, a kitchen and an apartment for the caretaker installed on the ground floor. Four more rooms with built-in wardrobes were created on the upper floor. The rooms were equipped with running water and connected to new central heating. After the takeover, SGS had the historic building renovated several times and kept it in its original state.

A small restaurant has been found here for several years.
