The SIAI-Marchetti SM.1019 was a short take-off liaison aircraft that was created on the basis of a request by the Italian army .
Development and technology
The SM.1019 was an improved version of the Cessna L-19 , with which the Italian army aviators had been equipped after the Second World War. The original SM.1019, whose maiden flight took place on May 24, 1969, had a more powerful engine (Allison 250-B15C) and a revised tail unit compared to the L-19. Due to the serial installation of the better turboprop propeller turbine Allison 250-B17B (400 PS, 298 kW), the machines were then given the manufacturer designation SM.1019A. The army name was SM.1019EI. The Italian army aviators received a total of 81 machines from the summer of 1976, which were used for communication, observation and transport tasks. The planes are no longer in service. One machine is in an aviation museum in San Possidonio near Modena , another in a military museum in Rome .
