The SIAI S.13 was a reconnaissance and hunting flying boat made by the Italian aircraft manufacturer SIAI-Marchetti and a smaller version of the previous model SIAI S.12 .

history

The Italian Navy bought 58 flying boats, the Spanish Navy 20 of them with a Hispano-Suiza engine with 300 hp. In France the machine was built and sold under license under CAMS C-13. The Swedish Navy received three S.13s.

A civil version was sold under the name SIAI S.13bis.

technology

The S.13 was a single-engine biplane reconnaissance flying boat with a crew of two. Pilot and observer sat next to each other in the open cockpit and were only protected by a windshield. The canoe-shaped hull was made of three layers of wood. As with the predecessor machines SIAI S.8 to SIAI S.12 , the wings were covered with ropes and attached to the fuselage with spars and steel wires. The S.13 was powered by an Isotta Fraschini V6 engine with 250 hp and a two-blade propeller. The armament consisted of a 7.7 mm machine gun.
