The SIAI S.23 was a training flying boat from the Italian aircraft manufacturer SIAI-Marchetti . It was used for the training of seaplane pilots.

history

The SIAI S.16 was a reliable aircraft from our own production, which was suitable for the training of seaplane pilots. The S.23 was based on the construction of the S.16 flying boat and had a two-seater open cockpit. The machine could be controlled from both seats, making it suitable for training.

technology

Like the S.16, the S.23 was a double-decker flying boat with a canoe-shaped wooden hull with an engine that, like its predecessors, was attached to the center of the upper wing. As with the predecessor machines SIAI S.8 to SIAI S.21 , the wings were covered with ropes and attached to the fuselage with spars and steel wires. For the planned training, the S.23 was equipped with an Isotta Fraschini V.6 with 160 hp and a four-blade propeller, with the motor working as a pressure motor. The engine mount was made from steel spars.
