The Y2 series is the Swedish name for a diesel multiple unit , which is known under the type designation of the manufacturer ABB Scandia in Denmark as the MF series (IC3). The MF range was largely designed and manufactured in Denmark . Important components such as diesel engines , bogies and gearboxes come from Germany , the car body from Switzerland .
The train consists of three vehicle parts, the two motorized end cars and an intermediate car. The car bodies rest on four bogies with air suspension from the German manufacturer Wegmann . Like the modern Norwegian multiple units ( BM70 , BM69 or BM92), they are made of light metal . The front of the trains has a wide door and a rubber bellows so that a train can be formed from several units and a transition between the units is possible. The railcar unit is powered by four diesel engines from the German engine manufacturer Deutz .
Each train is almost 59 meters long and has an empty weight of around 97 tons. In the normal version, the unit has 144 seats. They are equipped with a mechanical automatic transmission. The maximum speed is 180 km / h. All trains were given a name in Sweden.
Several trains were in use on the Blekinge kustbana before it was electrified. After electrification, the trains became obsolete and sold to Israel and Denmark . There were also operations on the Stångådalsbanan as well as on the Kalmar - Linköping and on the Tjustbanan Västervik - Linköping .
Y2K
While the Y2 is only allowed to drive in Sweden, the multiple units approved in Denmark and Sweden have the designation Y2K .
Whereabouts
Of the original 20 trains, Y2 1379 to 1384 are used for the Kustpilen . There they are used together with four class X31K railcars on the routes from Linköping to Västervik and Kalmar.
The trains Y2 1367, 1368, 1370 and 1371 were sold to Denmark by Blekinge Länstrafik AB in 2003. Since then, they have been used by the DSB as MF 5093–5096 . Y2 1376 was restored after an accident in Nosaby in 2004 and sold to Israel along with the other nine units in 2005.
