Salcea is a town in Suceava County in Romania .
location
Salcea lies in the foothills of the Eastern Carpathians, on a plateau between the Suceava in the west and Siret in the east. The district capital Suceava is about 10 km to the west.
history
The more rural Salcea gained in importance through the development of the nearby district capital Suceava and the opening of the Ștefan cel Mare airfield north of the town in 1963. In 2004 Salcea was declared a city.
population
In 1930 almost all of the 4500 inhabitants of today's city were Romanians . At the 2002 census, Salcea had 8,719 people, including 8,382 Romanians and 332 Roma . Only 2830 lived in the actual city, 5889 in the three incorporated villages.
traffic
The important Bucharest – Suceava railway runs south of the city . The district of Văratec has a train station where local trains stop in the direction of Suceava and Paşcani . There are bus connections to Suceava.
