history

The place benefited from its location in the Hallertau as a transit station to a pilgrimage to the Holy Kastulus in Moosburg an der Isar or to Altötting and was itself one of the most important pilgrimage churches in the Hallertau. The 11 properties in the village were assigned to Hofmark Hörgertshausen in 1686 . Saint Alban has been part of the community education through the Bavarian municipality edict of 1818 to the municipality Hörgertshausen. Regular events

Albigan Market

The "Albiganer market" takes place every year on the fifth Sunday after Easter, called Bittsonntag before Ascension Day instead. Its origin is not historically certain, but is suspected by historians in the 12th century. The "Albiganer Markt" is still carried out today by the village community of St. Alban, in common parlance "the Albiganerer".

The "Albiganer Markt" is a centuries-old "big people and on Mondays also cattle market", where farmers recruited seasonal workers for the upcoming harvest in the past. The earliest secured record is the permission of the market by Elector Maximilian II Emanuel and a church bill from 1684, in which it says:

"Anheur those priests, so with the cross alda went and celebrated, for the meal old herkhomen after every 17 cr. 1 hl-thurt, whose anheur 13 gwest."

Pilgrimage

The pilgrimage was one of the largest and most important in the Hallertau until the 1960s . According to legend, St. Alban wandered with his severed head to this place where he wanted to be buried. On Sunday there was a procession from the parishes of Au , Attenkirchen and Reichertshausen and on Monday from the parishes of Nandlstadt , Tegernbach , Hebrontshausen, Margarethenried , Priel , Volkmannsdorf , Gammelsdorf , Mauern , Inkofen and Hörgertshausen. In the course of time the catchment area of the pilgrims became smaller and smaller and the absolute low point was reached in 1769, when the local residents only bought a normal mass. The pilgrimage recovered, however, and the processional procession from the surrounding parishes of Nandlstadt, Baumgarten and Margarethenried were once again an annual part of the “Albigan Market”. Today on Monday there is still a traditional appeal from Hörgertshausen to Sankt Alban.
An old traditional pilgrimage song reads:

"In the Holledau, there is sky blue
guard us, unsa dear woman
mia gengan sched to Albigana
with a beautiful long flagstong
from Wolnzach via Nandlstod
where there Schimme si voloffa hod
and nacha it's sched umi, look
and nachada bisd scho z'Au "
