The Santa Rosa district is located in the La Mar Province in the Ayacucho region in south-central Peru . The district was established on November 6, 1992. It has an area of ​​388 km². The 2017 census counted 12,377 residents. In 1993 the population was 9,930, in 2007 11,200. The district administration is based in the small town of Santa Rosa with 5386 inhabitants , located on the Río Santa Rosa, a tributary of the Río Apurímac, at an altitude of 730  m (as of 2017). Santa Rosa is just 45 km northeast of the provincial capital San Miguel .

Geographical location

The district of Santa Rosa is located in the Peruvian Central Cordillera in the northeast of the province of La Mar. The district is bounded in the northeast by the Río Apurímac , which flows to the northwest . The district area extends over the catchment area of the Río Santa Rosa.

The district of Santa Rosa borders in the southeast and in the south on the district Samugari , in the extreme southwest on the district Tambo , in the northwest on the district Ayna and in the northeast on the district Kimbiri ( province La Convención ).
