Sasha Alexander (* 17th May 1973 in Los Angeles , California as Suzana Drobnjakovic ) is an American film and television actress . She chose her stage name after a nickname from her childhood (Sasha) and the first name of her brother (Alexander).

biography

Alexander's mother Dobrila Pavlović comes from Belgrade , ( Serbia ), her father Dragiša Drobnjaković from the Šumadija region , also Serbia. She began acting when she took on the female lead in a school production called Baby . She later worked at Shakespeare and Summer Stock festivals in New York . The role of Katherine in The Taming of the Shrew brought her the opportunity to study in Great Britain at the Royal Shakespeare Company .

Alexander graduated from the School of Cinema-Television , part of the University of Southern California , with a degree in directing . At the same time, she starred in several critically acclaimed independent films that were shown at festivals across America. She also works behind the camera, for example on the production Lucky 13 , where she directed, co-wrote the script, starred and produced.

Private

On September 18, 1999, Alexander married the director and screenwriter Luka Pecel . The marriage was later annulled. On May 12, 2006, she became the mother of a daughter. The child's father is her future husband, the director Edoardo Ponti , a son of Sophia Loren and Carlo Ponti . She has been married to him since August 11, 2007. Their second child, a son, was born on December 20, 2010.

Acting career

In 1999 Alexander had one of the leading roles in the television series Wasteland , the series came on a season. In the youth series Dawson's Creek she had a supporting role in the fourth season. Alexander achieved greater fame in the series Navy CIS , in which she played the agent Caitlin "Kate" Todd for two years (2003 to 2005) . After the second season of the series, Alexander got out because, according to her own statements, the burden of filming was too high for many more episodes. Therefore she was "written out", her character was murdered. Regardless of this, she appeared in thoughts or memories in episodes 8x14 and 9x14. However, the scenes were not re-shot; instead, unused archive material was used or scenes from their previous appearances were edited. Between 2010 and 2016 she played in the television series Rizzoli & Isles , the medical examiner Maura Isles .
