Student rock festival

Place of the festival:
the Wuppertal university hall

The school rock festival is a music festival that takes place every January in the Wuppertal university hall . The festival is aimed at schoolchildren; many of the bands that perform are school bands that often have their first major appearance. It has around 4000 visitors annually and took place for the 33rd time in 2019.

description

The festival is the largest live concert in Wuppertal and the largest rock festival for young musicians in Germany. According toKalle Waldingers, the initiator of the festival, receives around 500 applications for each festival, which come from all over Germany and numerous neighboring countries. When choosing, musicians from Wuppertal are preferred. Nevertheless, all performing musicians are only allowed to present two pieces at a time. This does not include the headliners , the better-known bands and musicians, most of whom have already performed at the festival as a school band. The jury consists of music educators and professional musicians.

The festival was founded to give students the opportunity to perform in front of a larger audience. They should also be supported in composing their own songs. Nevertheless, they should work as independently as possible.

history

The student rock festival was founded in 1987. In the first few years the venue was the börse , from 1989 the festival was moved to the university hall .

The Wuppertal School Rock Festival was held until 2015, and from 2016 - the thirtieth edition - it was the Bergische School Rock Festival. They want to start with more bands from Remscheid, Solingen and Radevormwald.

By 2016 around 4,000 musicians had performed on the stage, there were around 5,000 volunteers and around 90,000 visitors.
