course

From the source to the division

The Schengerholzbach rises in the Broich-Speldorfer Wald at an altitude of 80.7  m above sea level. NHN at a forester's house north-west of K 4 ( Großenbaumer Straße) . Its source is in the Broich-Speldorfer Wald and Lintorfer Mark nature reserve .

The creek flows initially strongly straightened some three hundred meters to the northwest through the forest, then bends sharply to the northeast, leaving shortly after the conservation area and enters the 35.70-hectare nature reserve Schengerholzbachtal The creek is now running in an east-northeast direction about a kilometer through the nature reserve . It then changes to the southeast, shortly afterwards leaves the nature reserve and enters the Bühlsbachtal and Schengerholzbach nature reserve . Immediately afterwards it crosses the K 4 again and then moves along the south-western edge of the Mülheim district of Saarn . After about half a kilometer, the Schengerholzbach (at Bach km 2.9) splits into two arms ( ).

Main strand

The approximately two kilometers long, eastern and left branch is the main branch of the Schengerholzbach.

The stream initially maintains its direction and flows through a wet meadow with sedge and reed beds in the landscape protection area . Two hundred meters later it crosses the K 10 ( neighboring road ), then changes its direction to the northeast and runs through a park-like green area . He feeds a small pond near St. Elisabeth's Church . About two hundred yards down stream he takes on his left side the from the north-northwest of Saarnberg coming and finally verdolten Bühlsbach (GKZ 276,993,964) on. From there, the Schengerholzbach itself also bears the name Bühlsbach .

To the east of the Fromberg the stream disappears from the surface and flows underground piped in a north-northeast direction through Saarnberg. It first crosses the neighboring road and then the Alte Straße , then moves under the Bundesstraße 223 ( Düsseldorfer Straße ) in a northerly direction through the industrial park there .

On its left-hand side it takes up the Heubach (GKZ 2769939662) , which has been piped underground, and finally flows southeast of the Rauen quarry at an altitude of about 37  m above sea level. NHN verdolt and from the left into the Ruhr approaching from the southeast .

nature and environment

The Schengerholzbach gives its name to the Bühlsbachtal and Schengerholzbach conservation areas (LSG-4507-0007).

The Biological Station Western Ruhr Area reported in 2011 on the occurrence of the blackcap and the wood warbler on the stream. Since 2000 the American giant aon rod has been identified as a neophyte on the brook.

The backfilling of a shooting range with rubble and slag led to considerable concerns among environmental associations in 2000.
