action

The Gaubner, who has escaped from prison, is discovered in a Belgian forest by Gernot Heugel, a professor who has withdrawn from life, and quartered in his hut. Not far away, Schimanski would like to camp with Marie-Claire and celebrate his pension back payment of 40,000 euros. But Marie-Claire doesn't like this dreary party at all and, offended, leaves the forest by hitchhiking. Schimanski follows her in his car, but by carelessness he gets into the ditch and passes out. Gaubner finds him and drags Schimanski into Heugel's hut. He even lifts Schimanski's car out of the ditch, but the secretive Gaubner has no ear for thanks.

After Schimanski witnessed a scene of adolescents assaulting Gaubner, which Gaubner fended off with a crucifix , he asked Hänschen by phone about an outbreak in which such an object also played a role. When Hänschen cannot reach Schimanski because Heugel cut the connection to protect Gaubner, Belgian police officers, with Hänschen in the wake, surround Gaubner's hut a little later. Schimanski defused the situation by talking to Gaubner and keeps him from suicide to commit. Gaubner's wish is to see his son, who lives with his devout grandparents. Schimanski helps Gaubner to escape and promises to find his son.

At the Gaubner's estate, Schimanski is not welcomed by Gaubner Senior and confronted with the family's religious views. To find out more about Gaubner's murder of his wife, he turns to the newspaper. The local journalist Trimborn is surprisingly curious and helpful and tells him about the affairs of Mrs. Gaubner. Prosecutor Krossenberg, on the other hand, is careful to keep Schimanski away from the Gaubner family. Through Trimborn he receives a spicy photo with Gaubner's wife and Krossenberg. In the old people's home he learns from the old pensioner, in whose pension the murder occurred, that one of Mrs. Gaubner's lovers had asthma . Schimanski uses the chance to intercept Gaubner's son David at the cemetery after school and take him with him. However, this action is rated as a kidnapping by the police, and a rapid manhunt begins for the two of them, which leads to Hunger's apartment.

There he finds out that Marie-Claire is hungry. Badly hit, he had to take Hunger's car in a pinch to escape the police again. When another arrest threatens at a rest stop, Trimborn, who suddenly appears, bails them out. But he's only interested in one story, so Schimanski decides to take David to the meeting with Gaubner on foot. In a village church there is again a meeting with Trimborn and David. When Schimanski wants to pick him up, David Trimborn is injured and escapes on the motorcycle that Schimanski has just exchanged for his watch. Due to the police presence at the meeting point, Gaubner cannot meet with Schimanski and returns to Heugel's hut.

Schimanski, who learned a lot about the night of the murder from David, confronts Krossenberg with the photo. The sudden disappearance of Trimborn and his previous asthma attack lead Schimanski to the conclusion that he was also a lover of Mrs. Gaubner. He quickly rushes to Heugel's hut in his car, which Marie-Claire brought him, and reports to Gaubner that he has lost his son. Fortunately, David reports to Schimanski on his cell phone that he has just gained access to the pension. Little did they know that Trimborn is already waiting for them there. When Schimanski and Gaubner arrive there, Trimborn reveals himself and confesses how it really came to the death of the mother. Gaubner always believed that his son, drunk, murdered his mother and went to prison for it. However, Trimborn had killed her after they were discovered by their son and she explained to him that their relationship had no future. After all that, Schimanski can persuade Marie-Claire to camp romantically in her automatic tent in the Belgian forest.
