Schlader is a village and a cadastral municipality in the market town of Karlstein an der Thaya in Lower Austria.

The village is located south of Karlstein in a small depression. The neighboring towns are Griesbach , Goschenreith , Eggersdorf and Wertenau . Schlader is a clustered village with several large properties, a chapel in the center and 42 inhabitants.

Up until the amalgamation of the municipalities, the municipality of Schlader also included Wertau. A separate two-class elementary school was operated. The special thing about Schlader is that it is not on any brook (just likewerteau, which was, however, a planned weaver settlement). Therefore was located on a hill above Schlader (toward Goschenreith) at the present single layer Windmühlhäusl a windmill. After the Second World War, Schlader still had a small shop, a forge in operation, an inn and two extinguishing ponds in the center of the village.

History of the place name: First documented mention in 1362 Slätern, 1369 Sleytor and later as Sletær. The place name is of Slavic origin, to Slav. Slatina "swamp, morass".
