The Schlechtbach is a right-hand tributary of the Gschwender Rot in the Ostalbkreis in Baden-Württemberg . The 5.3 km long stream flows almost exclusively in the area of the municipality of Gschwend .

geography

Course and catchment area

The Schlechtbach rises southwest of the central Gschwend in the south curve, which the B 298 takes after the climb southwest of Gschwend, in a forest blade. From there it flows in a south-easterly direction through Schlechtbach . It flows into the Gschwender Rot from the right at Birkenlohe , a district of Ruppertshofen .

The area of influence of 5.8 km² extends like the body of water to the southwest and in this direction has its greatest length of about 5 km, perpendicular to it it is a maximum of 1¾ km wide. The stream usually runs a little closer to the left watershed, which borders the catchment area of the receiving Gschwender Rot in the north and northeast . After the mouth, the right one runs quite low in the south towards the following tributary Ringelbach , then in the south-east about from Hinterlin valley to Hetzenhof on the north of the high Spraitbacher ridge in front of the valley of the Reichenbach . On the western end of the watershed, another red running to the linen competes on the other side in the west .

Most of the catchment area belongs to Gschwend, a small one in the southeast to Ruppertshofen, a tiny one in the south to Spraitbach .

Tributaries

Source of the Schlechtbach about 1½ km southwest of the center of Gschwend in the Klingenwald, the Bärenlöcher won within the southern curve of the B 238 after its climb from Gschwend towards Schwäbisch Gmünd at about 540  m above sea level. NN .

  • Inflow from Buckenbusch , from the right to about 474  m above sea level. NN , 0.463 km.
  • Inflow from the Königsbühl , from the right across from Hohenreut at 456  m above sea level. NN , 0.924 km.
  • Kirchenbach , from the right in Schlechtbach at the bridge at about 451  m above sea level. NN , 1.359 km. Arises on the slope just below Hegenreute .
  • Inflow from the Lindelberg north slope, from the right opposite the Schlechtbach sewage treatment plant at about 447  m above sea level. NN , 0.966 km.
  • Inflow from the Junkerwald , from the right a hundred meters before Birkenlohe at about 443  m above sea level. NN , 0.938 km.

Mouth of the Bad Bach from the right in the Gschwender red on the urban fringe of Ruppertshofen - Birkenlohe to about 440  m above sea level. NN after a run of 5.3 km. The small village occupies the flat, hilly lower estuary triangle.

geology

Almost the entire catchment area lies in the Keuper in and above the Stubensandstein ( Löwenstein Formation ), the mountain ridge accompanying the upper reaches on the right is one of the Lower Jurassic plateaus, which are also not uncommon in the Welzheimer Wald . The entire length of the stream lies in the Stubensandstein.

To the left of the upper reaches near Humberg is the so-called devil's kitchen . It is a rocky canyon in the Stubensandstein with a waterfall that occurs when there is heavy rainfall in front of a small cave behind the water curtain. Caused by the different degrees of weathering tendency of different sandstone layers.

nature

Forests and open land are roughly equally represented in the catchment area; Forests tend to occupy the slopes and the upper valley, while the open fields tend to occupy the lower valley and the flat zones. On the upper reaches of the Schlechtbach is quite natural, designated biotopes follow the course here and protect banks, spring areas and accompanying wet meadows, others lie in the blades running to the brook . The entire course of the stream below its source blade up to the mouth is an FFH area , as are the hillside meadows directly below the Jura plateau between Seelach and Hetzenhof .

A large part of the valley on both sides of the upper course and a smaller part between Schlechtbach and Birkenlohe on the right lower course belongs to the nature reserve Welzheimer Wald mit Leintal . A linden tree near the Schlechtbacher church is a natural monument, as is a litter meadow on the upper course, the devil's kitchen and an oak-hornbeam avenue on its left, as well as a wet meadow on the edge of the hillside forest south of Schlechtbach. Most of the catchment area is in the Swabian-Franconian Forest Nature Park .
