The conservation area Welzheimer forest with Leintal is with regulation of the then Regional Council Nordwürttemberg been trained from 30 August 1972 conservation area (LSG numbers 1.19.047 and 1.36.026) in the territory of the districts Rems-Murr and Ostalbkreis in Baden-Württemberg .

location

The 9,125 hectare area lies between Welzheim in the west and Heuchlingen in the east. 3,635.6 hectares are in the Rems-Murr district (municipal areas of Gschwend and Murrhardt ) and 5,489.4 hectares in the Ostalb district (municipal areas of Alfdorf , Böbingen an der Rems , Durlangen , Eschach , Göggingen , Heuchlingen, Iggingen , Leinzell , Mutlangen , Ruppertshofen , Schechingen , Schwäbisch Gmünd , Spraitbach and Täferrot ). The landscape protection area belongs to the natural areas 107- Schurwald and Welzheimer Wald and 108- Swabian-Franconian Forest Mountains within the main unit 10- Swabian Keuper-Lias-Land .

Protection purpose

The main protection purpose is the preservation of the untouched Keuper forest and valley landscape, which has an essential function as a recreational area.
