The areas were designated as nature and landscape protection areas in a joint ordinance issued by the Stuttgart Regional Council on June 12, 2002. location

The protected areas are on the Schlossberg in Bopfingen. The nature reserve includes the summit plateau and parts of the northern slope. The supplementary landscape protection area almost completely encloses the NSG and includes the western and eastern slopes as well as the lower part of the northern slope of the Schlossberg. The protected areas are located in the natural area 102- Eastern Alb foreland within the main natural space unit 10- Swabian Keuper-Lias-Land .

Protection purpose

According to the Protected Area Ordinance, the protection purpose of the nature reserve is: The preservation and promotion of a landscaped, diverse, species-rich complex of habitats, in particular with limestone grasslands, hedges, gravel and rock corridors, meadows and bushes as habitats for many rare animal and plant species, as a typical relic of the historical cultural landscape with its characteristic landscape and high regional importance and as a particularly varied, attractive landscape of a high-quality and protected area for recreation.

The protection purpose of the landscape protection area is: the safeguarding, preservation and development of an exemplary, typical landscape section of the Wuerttemberg Riesrands to protect the nature reserve in order to maintain and improve the usability of the natural assets, which is largely based on extensive use, in particular the extensively used meadows, pastures and Woody structures as a habitat for a world of birds and plants characterized by rare species and as an area in which the creation of fresh air is protected at the same time. In addition, the diversity, uniqueness and beauty of nature and landscape should be preserved and increased, partly for ecological reasons, partly because of their special recreational value for the general public.
