Birkenweiher with Oberholzweiher and Unterholzweiher is a nature reserve with the number 1.115 that was designated by the Stuttgart Regional Council of August 15, 1983 .
location
The nature reserve is located in the natural areas of the Swabian-Franconian Forest Mountains and the Middle Franconian Basin . It is located about 1000 meters east of Wört in the Rotach valley, a tributary of the Wörnitz . The area is part of the FFH area No. 6927-341 Rotachtal .
In the almost completely forested area are the three ponds Oberholzweiher with 0.4 ha, birch ponds with 0.9 ha and underwood ponds with 0.3 ha, which drain towards the Rotach.
Protection purpose
According to the ordinance, the protection purpose is the preservation of a chain of ponds with large areas of shallow water and siltation, litter meadows and small wet areas within the forest as a habitat for a multitude of rare and endangered animal and plant species.
Flora and fauna
The occurrence of the water umbilicus , which was thought to be lost in Baden-Württemberg, should be emphasized . Also worth mentioning are the protected species of marsh stendrums , broad-leaved and spotted orchid , globe flower , marsh and wood lice and arnica . Of the bird species breeding in the area, the reed warbler and the little grebe, listed as endangered species in the Baden-Württemberg Red List, are to be mentioned.
