Muckental is a nature reserve in the area of the Baden-Württemberg town of Ellwangen (Jagst) and the community of Ellenberg .

Characteristics

The nature reserve was designated by ordinance of the Stuttgart Regional Council of December 17, 2003 and has a size of around 33.1 hectares. It is listed under the protected area number 1.258. The CDDA code for the nature reserve is 318810 and corresponds to the WDPA ID .

Location and description

The protected area is directly adjacent to the place north of the Ellenberger hamlet Muckental and includes the bottom and the lower valley slopes of the Ellenberger Rot . In it lie the Neuweiher and the Muckenweiher, two historical ponds with a border of shallow water zones, reed beds, sedge meadows, extensively managed wet meadows and tall herbaceous meadows, surrounded by near-natural forests. It is located in the natural area 102 - Eastern Alb foreland within the natural spatial main unit 10 - Swabian Keuper-Lias-Land and is part of the approximately 420 hectare FFH area 7026-341 Virngrund and Ellwanger Mountains .

Protection purpose

The main protection purpose is the preservation and care of two historical ponds and wet areas with extensive meadows, sedge beds, tall herbaceous vegetation, reed beds, shallow water zones, aquatic plants and natural forests for scientific, ecological, natural history and cultural reasons. In addition, the preservation of the communities and habitats of a species-rich fauna and flora typical of the ponds and wetlands with rare and endangered species and the preservation of the scenic diversity, uniqueness and beauty of the historical ponds and wetlands are to be protected.
