The Scheuelberg nature reserve is located in the area of the towns of Heubach and Schwäbisch Gmünd in the Ostalb district in Baden-Württemberg . The area extends southwest of the core town of Heubach and southeast of Bargau , a district of Schwäbisch Gmünd. The state road L 1162 runs to the east .

For Heubach and Schwäbisch Gmünd, a 119.0 hectare area has been designated as a nature reserve under the protected area number 1.232 since September 3, 1998 . It is a “diverse landscape with near-natural beech forest and steppe heather communities , juniper heaths , grasslands , fields and hedgerows in their representative, but rare mixture for the Northeast Alb, which are to be preserved, promoted and restored. In their combination, these parts of the landscape are habitats for a large number of animal and plant communities that are in decline elsewhere and therefore threatened today. "
