Kaltes Feld mit Hornberg, Galgenberg and Eierberg is a nature reserve (NSG number 1.205) in the area of ​​the city of Schwäbisch Gmünd and the municipality of Waldstetten in the Ostalb district and the municipality of Lauterstein in the district of Göppingen in Baden-Württemberg . With an ordinance of December 23, 1994, the Stuttgart Regional Council placed the area under nature protection.

location

The cold field is a plateau south of Schwäbisch Gmünd and Waldstetten and north of Lauterstein and at 780.9  m above sea level. NHN the highest point in East Württemberg . To the south of the Kalten Feld borders the Galgenberg , a little further away . The deeply cut Lauter separates Galgenberg and Kaltes Feld from the Alb plateau and allows the Galgenberg to appear from the south as a mighty mountain range. The Eierberg , northeast of Degenfeld , is separated from the Cold Field by the upper Lauter.

The nature reserve lies in the natural area 096 Albuch and Härtsfeld within the natural spatial main unit 09 - Swabian Alb . It is supplemented by the 2,869 hectare protected landscape area No. 1.36.021 Kaltes Feld to Rosenstein and is part of the 2,520 hectare FFH area No. 7224342 Albtrauf Donzdorf-Heubach .

Protection purpose

The protection purpose is the preservation and promotion of an extremely diverse landscape with extensive juniper heaths, small heather areas, near-natural forest areas, meadows and arable land as an ecologically particularly high-quality landscape area as well as a high-quality biotope network for warmth and drought-loving animal and plant species, which, through the networking of juniper heather, Limestone meadows, hedges and forest fringes is characterized. In addition, the habitats of a large number of animal and plant species and in particular a large number of threatened species and the particularly varied, attractive and typical landscape are to be protected.
