The area extends north, south and northeast of the core town of Geislingen an der Steige along the Eyb and the state road L 1221.

For Böhmenkirch, Donzdorf and Geislingen an der Steige, an area of ​​1,331.0 hectares has been designated as a nature reserve under the identification number 1.212 since December 21, 1995 . It is an extremely diverse, ecologically valuable landscape with various near-natural forest types, numerous canyon forests and blades , springs , streams, caves and rocks, forest edges, hedges , orchards and wet meadows . The natural, attractive landscape includes networked habitats of a large number of animal and plant species, especially a large number of threatened species.
